5 Ways to Express Gratitude for Happiness and Wellbeing

Learning to express gratitude regularly has been one of the best things I've done for myself in a while. In my last post I wrote about struggling with anxiety. One of the ways I cope with these feelings is by expressing gratitude regularly. Since beginning this practice, I've felt such a positive impact on my sense of wellbeing, mood, and general outlook on life. When you take the time to express gratitude and focus on the good in your life, you realize that life is actually full of good things.

Positive Psychology research shows that people who express gratitude regularly benefit from:

~ Increased sense of happiness and wellbeing
~ Become more optimistic
~ Stronger immune systems, lower blood pressure and better sleep
~ Build stronger relationships
~ Decreased depression and anxiety

Let's say you're in a rut...It would be easy to allow your mind to race with increasingly negative thoughts, to compound your multiple worries, and let yourself fall deeper and deeper into a dark place. Or, you can make the choice to overcome those feelings. Stop those racing negative thoughts, and instead fill your mind with the good in your life. It may be challenging at first, but if you start out small and continue this practice regularly, you will find yourself in a much better place. Able to cope with the negative, overcome the challenges, and start and end each day with a positive outlook.

One of Those Moments

Have you ever had one of those moments where it feels like the walls are caving in? Like everything is crashing down on you and you just can't seem to make your way out...

I had one of those moments today. It's been brewing for a while. I've been putting it out of my mind. Pushing it under the surface. Focusing on work. Growing increasingly more stressed. You see, I'm a perfectionist. 100% type A, all or nothing person, who has a terrible time disconnecting, and an even more terrible time dealing with weakness.

Today, I couldn't bottle it up any longer. Everything came crashing down on me and in my moment of weakness, I found strength. Strength in knowing that it's ok to have these moments. It's real and it's raw. It's empowering to grow from these moments. So I did something for myself. I took a personal day. A day to stay home in my pajamas, work on myself, daydream and list the things I love about this life. In my time of reflection, I realized there's more to my life than being a workaholic, a perfectionist, and someone who cares entirely too much about what others think. I have hobbies and dreams, and so many things I'm passionate about.

One of those things is writing. I love to write. There's something about a blank canvas that helps me clear my mind. So today I decided to dust the cobwebs from this blog and come back to what I love. No posting schedules, no forced prompts, no sharing on social media platforms that I can't stand.
