My Perfect Morning Routine

If you're one of those people who jumps right out of bed when your alarm rings, I envy you! I am slowly becoming a "morning person." For the majority of my life I dreaded waking up early to start my day. I would hit the snooze button on repeat, skip breakfast, rush to get ready and fly out the door.

After reading about the benefits of an early morning routine, I started to rethink my mornings. I'm a sucker for routine. I crave routine. A few weeks ago I thought to myself, how can I wake up early and learn to enjoy the morning? I started gradually waking up earlier and earlier. Each day got a little bit easier. 

Once I had that down, I began carving out my perfect morning routine. It looks something like this...

Rise and Shine
I set my alarm each day for 5:35 a.m. I try not to hit the snooze button, but if I do, I make sure it's only once! I start the day with some neck, shoulder and arm stretches in bed.

Hydrate + Light Snack
Before I do anything else I chug a full glass of water (usually with lemon). After sleeping for 6-8 hours, your body needs to rehydrate. I munch on a light snack depending on the workout I have planned. For yoga or light strength training I have a few berries. For anything more strenuous I add in some chia pudding or a handful of nuts.

Work It Out
Getting some movement first thing in the morning has been a game changer for my energy level and mood. It took some time to get used to, but now I love it! I usually do some yoga or a 15-20 minute Tone It Up workout.

Meditation + Intentions
I pour another glass of water, set my intentions for the day and do a few minutes of meditation. I mentioned mindfulness meditation in this post and how it has helped me eliminate stress and start the day with gratitude.

Bulletproof Tea + Me Time
I don't drink coffee because it's too harsh on my stomach. Instead I have learned to love my morning tea. Especially when it's packed with healthy fats and gut healing collagen! This combo keeps me full until I get to work, which is when I have my real breakfast for the day. I'll share more about my easy bulletproof routine in a later post! Once my tea is ready, I curl up on the couch and RELAX. I usually scroll through social media or Bloglovin. Sometimes I read a few pages of whatever book I'm into at that moment (lately these have been nutrition/wellness reads).

Wellness Shot + Supplements
I've developed a new obsession for wellness shots. Usually it's a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar mixed with a little water. Sometimes it's a concoction of lemon juice, ginger, cayenne and turmeric. I throw that bad boy back and chase it down with some more water! These are loaded with health benefits. I take my supplements and you guessed it...drink more water. I'll share more about my wellness shots and current supplement routine in a future post!

Shower + Makeup + Get Dressed for Work
Not much to explain here, except that I have mostly ditched my old makeup for all toxin free brands! I am so excited about this and will share more in a future post!

There you have morning routine! Waking up early to start my day is now something I look forward to. I've learned to appreciate the quiet that morning brings, and am so thankful to have the time to myself before the craziness of the work day begins!
